Drs Cook, Silberstein and colleagues have recently published in the peer-reviewed
journal BMJ Neurology Open regarding vascular complications in DBS for
Parkinson’s disease.
This study is the largest patient series on DBS published in Australia and one of the
largest ever published case series on complications of surgical treatment for
Parkinson’s disease, reviewing their own surgical experience of 600 patients over 20
years.
The reported DBS vascular complication rate is equivalent to the lowest complication rate in the published international literature, and explores their unique surgical technique that facilitates these outcomes.
